Update 29th June

Boyle GAA Club bade farewell to its esteemed President during the week, with the passing of the great John Joe Nerney. John Joe was Boyle’s only All Ireland Senior medallist, having been a forward on the winning Roscommon team of  1944. He played with Boyle from the thirties until the sixties and we were proud to have him as our Club President for over 20 years. The Club cancelled all activities that were scheduled for the weekend as a mark of respect. These included the U16 Championship game versus Clan na Gael and the O’Rourke Cup game versus Strokestown, as well as the fortnightly Club Lotto draw. A minutes silence was observed at the Division 5 Junior League game versus Abbey Park on Wednesday evening, with the news of John Joe’s death emerging as the game was about to commence. Thanks to all GAA people who participated with the Club in the guards of honour for John Joe at both the removal and burial. The Club extends it deepest sympathy to Mary, Gerry, Anthony, Raymond and Teresa and their families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.

The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors had a convincing win over Kilglass Gaels in the Division 5 League on Wednesday evening last. They are scheduled to meet the same opposition in the Junior Championship Division 2 on Sunday next. They will meet neighbours Ballinameen in the Division 5 League on this Wednesday at 8pm in Abbey Park.

The U14 Division 1 team is scheduled to play Oran in Rockfield on Thursday at 7.30, while the U14 Division 4 team is scheduled to play Roscommon Gaels in Lisnamult also on Thursday at 7.30pm  in their respective championships.

The U12 Division 4 team will host Shannon Gaels in Abbey Park on Saturday next at 12 noon in the Spring League.

The Defibrillator training course which was scheduled for Wednesday evening last has been postponed until the Autumn.

The rescheduled Club Lotto draw will be held on Saturday night in Creightons with Team A in charge, and the jackpot will be €9,100.

The Club Rossie draw has been fixed for 11th July, so this is the last week to purchase a ticket. Tickets are available from Club Officers.

The Club extends it sympathy to the Lavin family Greatmeadow and Lisserdrea on the death of John Lavin.

Congratulations are extended to Club player Mark McGovern and his Bride Emma on their recent wedding.

Best wishes are extended to the Roscommon Minors and Seniors who will be in Championship action on Friday and Saturday evenings respectively.


Ladies GAA: Best of luck to Roscommon U-16 girls in the Connaught B Final. Roscommon V Leitrim on Wednesday 1st July in Ballyhaunis GAA pitch @ 6:30pm. (Not the centre of excellence). Boyle players Roisin Wynne, Aine Mullins, Sinead Glennon, Ruth Cox and Sinead Keenehan (management team). All support greatly appreciated.

Update 22nd June

The following were €20 winners at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Mattimoes;- Tom Commons, Dessie McLoughlin, Helen Cregg, Seamus Cooney, Neil Flanagan and Caroline Burke and friends. The house prize was won by Michael Shannon. The jackpot wasn’t won and it will be at €9,100 for Saturday night’s draw which will be held in Creighton’s with Team A in charge. 
Sunday was an historical day for our U12s with teams competing in Spring League County Finals in Croghan. The Division 2 team suffered an agonising one point defeat to Strokestown while the Division 5 team were victorious over St Barrys. Thanks to the panels and management for their great work so far this season. Thanks also to all involved in providing refreshments for the boys when they returned to the Clubroom on Sunday evening.

The Club hosted a very successful Under 10 blitz in the Abbey Park on Saturday. Thanks again to all who assisted with the catering.

The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors suffered defeat to Kilbride in Kilbride on Sunday in the Junior Football Championship. They will be involved in Division 5 League action on Wednesday evening when they will host Kilglass Gaels in the Abbey Park at 8pm.
The Lannon Motor Repairs sponsored U16s will commence their Division 2 Championship campaign on Friday next in the Abbey Park at 7.30. The Club wishes to thank James Lannon of Lannon Motor Repairs, Forest View, Boyle for coming on board as sponsors of the U16s. 
The National Automation Limited Minors played St Faithleachs in the Division 2 Championship in Abbey Park on Monday.

The U14 Division1 team lost heavily to St Brigids in Kiltoom on Tuesday while the U14 Division 4 team got a walkover from St Dominics in their respective championship games.

The McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors will play their third Senior Championship game of the season on Saturday next in Castlerea at 7pm when they will take on Strokestown in the second game on a double header programme. The Club would appreciate full support for this important game.

There will be training on Basic Life Support--Defibrillator (AED) training, in the Clubroom on this Wednesday from 7pm to 10pm. A skill for life.x zxzc\cxxcx The Club encourages as many as possible to attend. Those wishing to attend should immediately contact Jan Flanagan at 086 0667163. 

Thanks to all who supported the “Cash for Clobber” campaign. The Club will shortly be undertaking an “Operation Transformation” campaign--there will be more details in the coming weeks.

The Club Rossie draw is imminent and a final appeal is being made to those who have not yet purchased their tickets, to make contact with any of the Club officers.

Update 15th June

The McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors held out for a hard earned draw with Padraig Pearses in the O’Rourke Cup in the Abbey Park on Sunday. It was a game that Boyle dominated for long periods but the shooting boots were forgotten.

 The U12 second team had a great win over Padraig Pearses in the Abbey Park on Sunday in the Division 5 Spring League Semi Final. They have now joined their first team colleagues who have already qualified for the Div 2 Final. One of these finals is expected to be scheduled for this coming weekend.

The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors are scheduled to play the second round of the Junior 2B Championship against Kilbride in Kilbride on Sunday next. This team’s Division 5 League game versus Kilglass Gaels has been rescheduled for Wednesday week 24th.

The U14 Division 1 team played their first round championship game against Si Brigids in Kiltoom on Monday. The U14 Division 4 team is scheduled to play St Dominics in their first round championship in Abbey Park on this Thursday at 7.30pm.

The Cash for Clobber campaign will end on Saturday next. We urge those who have yet to complete their “spring clean” to make arrangements to get their bags of unwanted clothing, hand bags, shoes,mobile phones or laptops by 11am on Saturday next at the latest.

A final call is being made this week to those who have not yet enlisted in the Club Rossie draw to do so by Friday next as the draw is imminent.

The Club will embark on an “Operation Transformation” project in the late summer.

Club supporters are advised that when shopping in Kelly’s Supervalu, Boyle, to enter their tokens for the “GAA Kits for Kids” in support of Boyle GAA Club. This initiative assists in the provision of gear and equipment for our underage footballers and the offer continues until 5th July.

Thanks to Jan Flanagan for organising First Aid training for team mentors on Thursday evening last. The session was well attended and proved to be extremely useful.

A training course (certified by Irish Heart Foundation) for those wishing to learn or refresh their skills in basic life support/Defibrillator has been scheduled for Wednesday 24th June. Those wishing to attend should contact Jan Flanagan at 086 0667163.

Congratulations to Roscommon hurlers on their great win over Mayo on Sunday in Pearse Stadium, thus winning their place in next year’s Christy Ring Cup and securing the Connacht Intermediate title.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations
Golden Jubilee Celebrations for Canon Ciaran Whitney next Friday night 19th June from at 8pm with Mass of Thanksgiving In Drumboylan Church, followed by a reception immediately afterward in Drumboylan Hall. Cakes, Buns, and Sandwiches greatly accepted for the celebrations. All donations can be dropped off at Drumboylan Hall on Friday evening between 5pm and 7pm. Thank you all, for your continued help and support.

CURLEW WALKERS CLUB
The next meeting of the walker club will take place on Sunday 21st June at meeting at Mac Dermotts Pub car park at 7pm then onto the Bricklieves Sunset Night walk.  This will be a picnic grade C, with your leader being Philip James who can be contacted on 086 335 3000 for further details.

Cemetery Sunday
There will be Mass and Blessing of Graves on Sunday 28th June in Assylinn (Old) Graveyard at 3p.m. This is an opportunity to gather together and to remember our dead and also to renew our own faith in resurrection.

Summer soccer camp at Boyle Celtic
The FAI Summer Soccer Camp is coming to Boyle this August. 5 days of top quality coaching will take place in Celtic Park, Boyle from August 10th to the 14th 2015. Camps are open to boys and girls aged between 6 and 14. They run from 10.30am until 3pm Monday to Friday. SECRET GARDENS
The gardens provides a wonderful opportunity for all garden lovers to do what they enjoy most-peek over a wall, sneak through a gate, and explore an unknown garden to their heart’s content. These hi8dden gardens, large and small and in some wonderful settings, offer inspiration, ideas and tranquillity – a perfect day o9ut.  One such garden belongs to Saffron Thomas and Ian Stanley created by two artists in an intimate rural setting; this garden combines productivity, ornamental planting and permaculture. The garden open to view from 11am until 5pm on Sunday 28th June, 12th & 26th July and 2nd , 2nd August and 6th September. The garden can be found on the Boyle /Frenchpark Road, turn right at the Saddlers Inn, after approx 2.5km keep right on the bend, take 2nd lane on right and entrance just after first cottage.

ACCELERATE GREEN ENTERPRISE
Workshops and Training on Green Opportunities: Community Groups, Enterprises and Individuals. The Accelerate Green Enterprise programme, based in Boyle, Co. Roscommon is offering a range of workshops and training for interested individuals, businesses and groups. All workshops are free and include themes such as - how to create viable business opportunities from natural resources, understanding the green customer of the future - and much more. The programme also offers an IdeaGen platform which will assist budding entrepreneurs with a green idea, seeking to test out the idea and receive advice on how to move it forward. The Horse and Summer Show Classic held Saturday 6th June was won by Liam Whyte, Lorcan Egan, Jonathan Egan & Vincent Egan 99pts, 2nd Michael Simon, Michael Rush, Seamus Gallagher & Michael Bannon 93pts, 3rd Charlie O’Donnell, Ross Andrew, Willie Tiernan & Michael Gilmartin 91pts. Update 8th June

The following were €20 winners in the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Wynnes;- John Finneran, Anthony and Bernadette Keenehan, John Carroll, Kevin Healy, John McGuinn and James Clarke. The house prize was won by Monica McDermott. The jackpot wasn’t won and it will be at €9,000 for Saturday night’s draw which will be held in Mattimoes. Team E will be in charge.
The McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors’ scheduled O’Rourke Cup game versus Elphin was postponed on Sunday as a mark of respect to Padraig “Dolly” Beirne, brother of County PRO Colm Beirne whose untimely death occurred during the week. Boyle GAA Club extends its sympathy to Colm and the Beirne family. Our Seniors will host Padraig Pearses in the Abbey Park on Sunday next at 2 pm in the next round of the O’Rourke Cup.

The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra Juniors will play Kilglass Gaels on Wednesday week 17th June in the Division 5 League.

Congratulations to Roscommon hurlers on winning the Nicky Rackard Cup in Croke Park on Saturday. Best wishes to them as they take on Mayo on Sunday next to determine promotion to the next level.

The Bazaar sponsored U12 girls lost their Division 1A county semi-final to Eire Og 1-5 to 1-4. Great team performances in all matches throughout the season. Thanks to the management team of Adrian, Sabrina, Mary and Denise.

Update 1st June



Well done to our McGovern Directional Drilling Seniors on their one point win over Elphin in the Senior Championship in the Abbey Park on Sunday. See match report elsewhere. The next championship outing will be against Strokestown on 28th June. Thanks to our many loyal Club members who assisted in the smooth running of the championship double header in the Abbey Park on Sunday. Thanks also to all who helped tidy up the grounds in the days prior to the games. The lads are scheduled to meet Elphin again on Sunday next in the O’Rourke Cup on Sunday next in the Abbey Park at 2pm.

The Clubroom will be open to receive bags of used clothes in our “Cash for Clobber” project on Saturday next from 11am to 12 noon. Please make a special effort to do a spring clean and donate your bags of used (clean) clothes and footwear.

The Club Rossie draw date has been extended and with Roscommon doing so well at all levels it would be of great assistance to their continued development if those who have not yet joined would do so.
